A new documentary titled “Run Terry Run” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, shedding light on Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope journey like never before. Directed by Sean Menard, the film showcases previously unreleased footage of Fox’s determination and spirit.
The documentary reveals that although Fox fell short of his intended destination from St. John’s to Victoria, covering over 5,000 kilometers in 143 days, his legacy extended far beyond. Fox’s initial journey with his best friend, Doug Alward, was later joined by his younger brother, Darrell Fox, who played a crucial role in maintaining harmony during the run.
Fox’s frustration with media coverage, refusal of personal sponsorship, and his belief that a past car accident led to his cancer are also highlighted in the film. Despite his health struggles and the challenges faced in Quebec and Ontario, Fox’s determination and playful nature are portrayed vividly throughout the documentary.
Terry Fox’s impactful journey, which sadly ended in 1981 at the age of 22, continues to inspire millions worldwide. The annual Terry Fox runs have raised over $1 billion for cancer research, solidifying Fox’s legacy as a symbol of courage and hope. “Run Terry Run” will hit theaters on October 9, offering viewers a closer look at the remarkable story of a true Canadian hero.
