Tommy Fleetwood has expressed his support for Brooks Koepka’s comeback to the PGA Tour, noting that LIV Golf has not shown interest in him during the postseason. Koepka recently left the Saudi-backed tour and is set to participate in the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open, marking a significant return to the PGA Tour.
The move by Koepka has put pressure on LIV Golf to retain their other top talents, with Patrick Reed hinting at a potential return as well. Fleetwood, currently ranked No.3 globally, praised the PGA Tour for its prestigious events and substantial prize money, emphasizing his gratitude for being able to compete at such a high level.
Regarding Koepka’s return, Fleetwood stated, “It’s a positive development for the PGA Tour to have Brooks back in the mix.” Fleetwood, who secured a $10 million prize by winning his first PGA Tour event last year, is now focused on achieving his first Major victory, highlighting the importance of aligning personal goals with the right playing environment.
LIV Golf, financed by Newcastle’s Public Investment Fund, made substantial investments in previous seasons, including lucrative deals with Koepka and Jon Rahm. This year, the signings have been less high-profile, with new additions such as Victor Perez and Laurie Canter joining the roster.
Despite being a sought-after player, Fleetwood revealed that LIV Golf has not approached him recently, acknowledging the shifting landscape in professional golf with top players exploring different opportunities. The decision by Koepka to return to the PGA Tour has been well-received by fellow players like Shane Lowry, who sees it as a positive move for both Koepka and the tour.
Lowry, reflecting on his recent performance at the Dubai Invitational, expressed his determination to bounce back from setbacks and perform at his best in upcoming tournaments.
