Oliver Bearman was visibly distressed after a high-speed collision during the Japanese Grand Prix. Following the incident where he lost control of his Formula 1 car and crashed into a barrier, Bearman urgently signaled for marshals’ assistance from the cockpit.
Once extracted from the Haas car, two marshals helped Bearman walk, showing signs of significant discomfort. He limped noticeably and collapsed behind the barrier, clutching his right lower leg and ankle, prompting the medical car to be called in for aid.
Bearman was swiftly taken to the circuit medical center for further evaluation. A Haas representative later confirmed that X-rays showed no fractures, only a bruise on his right knee.
The crash led to a delay in the Grand Prix as the damaged Haas car had to be removed and the barrier repaired. When the race resumed on lap 28, Kimi Antonelli led the restart, benefiting from strategic timing with his teammate George Russell pitting for new tires.
Antonelli maintained his lead comfortably, with Oscar Piastri in second place behind him. However, Lewis Hamilton’s surge past Russell into third position added pressure to the race leaders, according to reports.
Russell expressed frustration over his misfortune during the race, contrasting with Antonelli’s advantageous timing after the safety car period. Despite initial setbacks, Piastri continued to hold onto second place ahead of Hamilton.
Meanwhile, Lando Norris and Max Verstappen faced challenges in advancing their positions in the race. Verstappen struggled to overtake Pierre Gasly’s Alpine in front of him, highlighting the difficulties for some drivers on the track.
