The Minnesota Frost have secured their captain Kendall Coyne Schofield for another two years by signing her to a new contract. This move puts to rest any speculations about the 34-year-old taking a break following her success in helping the United States claim an Olympic gold medal earlier this year.
By retaining Coyne Schofield, the Frost will maintain their experienced core leadership, which has been instrumental since clinching back-to-back titles in the PWHL’s inaugural seasons of 2024 and ’25. Alongside alternate captains Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek, Coyne Schofield expressed excitement about the upcoming two seasons, aiming to lead the team to another Walter Cup victory.
Originally from Chicago, Coyne Schofield boasts an impressive resume, being a four-time Olympian and two-time gold medalist. She also played a significant role in the establishment of the PWHL back in the summer of 2023. Despite missing some games last season due to injury, Coyne Schofield delivered solid performance with 12 goals and 23 points in 23 matches. Her career stats of 63 points (30 goals, 33 assists) in 77 PWHL games rank her third in the league.
Having been among the Frost’s foundational players, Coyne Schofield’s future with the team was uncertain until this recent contract extension. With her now locked in, the Frost have a total of 17 players under contract, including key members of their championship-winning squads. Although they finished third in the previous season’s standings, the team was narrowly defeated in the semifinals by eventual champions Montreal.
