Canada’s national police force announced on Monday the apprehension of a 51-year-old individual for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier, a resident of Montreal, faces charges of making threats to cause harm or death, as per an RCMP press release. The purported threats were conveyed via email to various undisclosed recipients, including a senator, as detailed by law enforcement authorities. The accused also reportedly menaced “all Canadian police officers,” as indicated in the legal documentation.
Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and vandalism for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017, a fact confirmed by the police to CBC News. At the time of his recent arrest, he was serving probation related to those offenses, as confirmed by an RCMP representative. Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as stated in the press release, with a reminder that the charges against him are yet to be proven in court.
