Military fighter jets were dispatched to accompany a Turkish Airlines aircraft following concerns raised by the pilot about a potential onboard threat. Reports indicated the Turkish Airlines flight TK1853 departed Istanbul early in the morning and landed at Barcelona-El Prat Airport with the suspicion of a possible object onboard.
The Airbus A321 plane, carrying seven crew members and 148 passengers, was escorted by military planes after a threat was identified over the Mediterranean Sea in Italian airspace. Spanish and French armed forces were engaged, leading to the safe landing of the flight at Barcelona’s airport.
Authorities boarded the plane upon landing, and emergency services were deployed to the scene. Luggage checks have been conducted, but no explosives have been found yet, maintaining normal operations at El Prat Airport. Despite triggering a general alert and activating the crisis committee, experts suggest this incident may be a false alarm based on current information.
Passengers have been relocated to a designated area within the airport, and efforts are underway to inform their families about the situation.
