Disneyland Monorail Evacuated Due to Power Failure

A significant evacuation occurred on the Disneyland Monorail as individuals were required to disembark from the tracks due to a power failure. Approximately 60 passengers were evacuated from the monorail near the Space Mountain attraction after it came to a halt. Emergency responders utilized ladders to safely guide the passengers down, resulting in no injuries.

The Anaheim Fire Department positioned a fire engine beneath the monorail track, extending its ladder towards the train to assist in the evacuation process. According to a spokesperson from Disneyland Resorts, the monorail’s power beam malfunctioned on Thursday afternoon, affecting two trains. By 7 pm, all riders had been successfully evacuated. A rider stranded on the ride mentioned to KTLA that the vehicle lost power around 3:30 pm.

The Disneyland monorail operates along a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, running at 10-minute intervals. The journey, lasting approximately 13 minutes, offers scenic views of Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Hollywood Land, the Grand Californian Hotel, and the Downtown Disney District.

Describing the monorail, the Disneyland website highlights its historical significance as the first transportation system of its kind in America. The current version, known for its blend of classic 1959 styling and modern technologies, maintains a retro-futuristic appearance. Operating with Red, Blue, and Orange Mark VII trains powered by a 600-volt DC source, the monorail is environmentally friendly, producing no direct emissions.

Originally an attraction, the monorail transitioned into a functional transportation system by 1961, providing transport to and from the Disneyland Hotel. Following various updates, the current line of train cars began serving guests between 2008 and 2009.

In a similar incident, a malfunction occurred with the Monorail Silver at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, in November 2025. The electrical issue near the Grand Floridian Resort led to smoke between two train compartments. Prompt action by fire crews resolved the situation, extinguishing the fire and evacuating passengers. The incident caused a brief disruption, requiring guests to utilize alternative transportation options such as buses, boats, and ferries.
