Renowned chef James Martin, hailing from Malton, has praised a dining spot in Yorkshire for its exceptional fish and chips experience. During an interview on LNER’s Routes podcast with host Jenni Falconer, he highlighted the Magpie CafĂ© in Whitby as a must-visit destination in Yorkshire. James recommended ordering a large haddock with mushy peas, salt, vinegar, and tartar sauce for the ultimate meal.
Describing his love for the food at the café, James reminisced about enjoying the dish by the seaside, emphasizing the unique experience of the steam rising from the hot meal amid the windy atmosphere. He described the moment as reaching the pinnacle of fish and chips enjoyment.
The Magpie CafĂ©, situated along Whitby’s seafront, has garnered over four and a half stars from nearly 9,000 Google reviews. This isn’t the first time James has expressed his fondness for Yorkshire, having previously shared his admiration for Whitby and York in an interview with Food and Travel Magazine.
James reflected on the historical charm of York and the scenic beauty of North Yorkshire, particularly enjoying the road from Pickering to Whitby with its accompanying steam engine. He also mentioned his affinity for the local fish and chips and arcade attractions in Whitby.
Although currently residing in Manchester, Hampshire, and the Cotswolds, James hinted at the possibility of returning to live in Yorkshire someday. Expressing his deep affection for the region, he emphasized his love for Yorkshire and the special connection he feels towards it.
