Beloved Lancashire Hotel Guy’s Thatched Hamlet Closes

Guys Thatched Hamlet, a well-known hotel and restaurant operating for 46 years, has abruptly closed its doors, causing distress among its patrons. Situated off the A6 near Bilsborrow in Lancashire, the 65-room hotel, nestled by the canal on St Michael’s Road, has ceased operations, leading to the termination of all staff members.

A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, signaling the end of its services. The expansive 14-acre property encompassed various facilities such as a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, a cricket ground, bowling green, and three parking lots.

As per the Lancashire Post, the posted notice conveyed, “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed. This decision, reached after careful consideration, expresses our gratitude to loyal customers, dedicated staff, and supportive suppliers over the years. The hamlet held significant sentimental value for many individuals, and as it undergoes a transitional phase, our focus is on concluding this chapter.”

Heartbroken customers expressed their sentiments on social media following the announcement. One reminisced, “Where my hubby proposed to me in 2012,” while another lamented, “I also got engaged here in 2015. Such a shame.” Another shared, “Been going to Guys regularly for years and even proposed to my partner in the restaurant and got a round of applause from all the diners. Sad that it’s gone and hopefully someone will take it on and preserve its essence.”

Operated by the Wilkinson family since 1980, the establishment was listed for sale last year, disclosing a net turnover of approximately £4.2 million with no specified guide price. The property’s strategic location near the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland made it easily accessible, attracting leisure and commercial clientele to its 65 en suite bedrooms.

Over the past 44 years, the business underwent extensive renovations and expansions, solidifying its reputation as a unique and esteemed destination in the North West of England. With a steady year-round customer base and thriving food and beverage offerings, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet was a popular spot during summer and festive seasons.
