Atlético Madrid has secured a loan deal with Canadian forward Jonathan David from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as confirmed by both clubs on Tuesday. The 26-year-old, originally from Ottawa, appeared in 46 matches for Juventus last season, scoring eight goals, and has made one appearance in the current campaign.
David will be vying for playing time in Madrid alongside Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury at the start of the season. Prior to joining Juventus in 2025, David had an impressive record of 109 goals in 232 games for Lille in France, where he clinched Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup.
As Canada’s leading men’s scorer with 42 goals, David is also set to join Atlético Ottawa in the Canadian Premier League, his hometown team. Atlético Madrid is scheduled to face Athletic Club on Saturday and Liverpool in the Champions League on September 9.
