Prince George RCMP have verified that an individual passed away following an emergency landing of an aircraft on Foothills Boulevard, located approximately 1.5 kilometers north of North Nechako Road. The RCMP mentioned that two motor vehicles were part of the incident. A statement from the RCMP confirmed the fatality of one occupant from the vehicles involved, while the status of injuries to other occupants in the vehicles and individuals on the plane remains uncertain.
Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the area as Foothills Boulevard has been shut down to all traffic, and this closure will persist throughout the night and into Friday. The Transportation Safety Board will oversee the investigation, as per police statements.
Emergency services responded to a section of northern Prince George where a small plane appeared to have made an emergency landing on a busy roadway. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. PT on Foothills Boulevard near Highland Drive, as per Prince George RCMP reports.
B.C. Emergency Health Services received a call around the same time, and multiple medical units, including ambulances and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene. Ten individuals were assessed, with two patients being transported to the hospital in stable condition, according to BCEHS paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites.
Witness Mohit Arora described the dramatic moment when the plane descended onto the road, striking a pickup truck. The truck driver sustained injuries but survived, narrowly avoiding being hit by the aircraft’s propeller, which came close to Arora’s own vehicle.
The scene is still being assessed by first responders, with RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper highlighting the unexpected nature of the incident involving two cars. Prince George Fire Rescue confirmed their attendance at the scene of a “serious motor vehicle incident involving a plane.”
The Transportation Safety Board identified the aircraft as a Beech King Air 200 and announced its team’s deployment to Prince George for a thorough investigation. Photos taken by Arora depict the damaged aircraft on the roadside, with a broken propeller lying in the middle of the road. A yellow car and a pickup truck with debris from the plane’s impact can also be seen at the crash site.
Authorities advise avoiding the area due to the road closure expected to last a significant amount of time.
