Felix Auger-Aliassime, the Montreal tennis star, has recovered well from his recent back injury, which caused him to miss the National Bank Open in his hometown. At the Cincinnati Open, the 26-year-old advanced to the Round of 16 by defeating Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo with a score of 7-5, 6-1 on Tuesday night.
In a swift match lasting only one hour and 27 minutes, Auger-Aliassime secured victory over Cerundolo in the Round of 32 singles. His next challenge will be against Frances Tiafoe, who triumphed over Learner Tien in a competitive all-American match that lasted two hours and 10 minutes.
Auger-Aliassime’s successful start in Cincinnati included a victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in his first match on Sunday with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5. In his match against Cerundolo, Auger-Aliassime demonstrated his skills with six aces, five double faults, 22 unforced errors, and 19 winners. He managed to win three out of nine return games and all nine of his service games.
Earlier this month, Auger-Aliassime had to withdraw from the NBO in Montreal due to a back injury sustained during training before the tournament, where he was seeded No. 2. Notably, other top players like World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Wimbledon champion, and World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz also had to miss the event due to health issues, along with Novak Djokovic, the record holder for male Grand Slam titles.
