An 85-year-old golfer from Fall River, Nova Scotia, named David McDonald recently achieved a remarkable feat by shooting an even-par 72 at Ashburn Golf Club’s challenging new course. Despite his age, McDonald continues to play golf three to four times a week, mostly walking the course. His dedication to the sport, healthy lifestyle, and consistent performance have allowed him to not only shoot in the high 70s regularly but also surpass his age by 13 strokes in a single round.
McDonald, who started playing golf at 30 while serving in the air force, quickly excelled in the sport and even won three national titles in military tournaments. Over the years, he has accumulated 17 holes-in-one and remains determined to achieve his 18th. Retirement from the military in 1995 allowed McDonald to focus more on golf, leading to multiple provincial senior men’s championship wins and induction into the Cape Breton Sport Hall of Fame.
Despite facing some health challenges in the past, McDonald attributes his longevity and continued success in golf to his active lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of staying active and enjoying the game. His passion for golf, dedication to staying fit, and positive attitude inspire those around him, making him a respected and admired figure on the golf course.
