Provincial authorities have reported the discovery of a third set of human remains at a location near Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. The latest remains have been identified as belonging to Lawrence Bertrim, who was last seen in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are still investigating the cause of his death, and no charges have been filed. A $50,000 reward remains available for information leading to a conviction in his case.
Lawrence Bertrim, who was 42 years old at the time of his disappearance, was located on August 6 on the Kelly Jordan Road property. Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton of the OPP expressed that finding Lawrence Bertrim is a significant breakthrough for his family, who have been awaiting answers for nearly four years, as well as for the investigative team who have been tirelessly working on the case.
The discovery of three missing persons on the same property has generated public interest, and authorities are asking for patience as the investigation progresses. This finding came the day after another missing man, Robert Lambert, was found deceased on the same property in July. Although no charges have been laid in Lambert’s case, police have indicated suspicions of foul play.
Additionally, Robbie Thomson’s remains were discovered on the same residential property in October 2025. Four individuals have been charged in connection with his death, including three facing charges of first-degree murder. Bertrim and Thomson were acquainted with each other, as reported by CBC News in 2023. They were also believed to have known Steven Tate, whose body was found in a ditch along Highway 15 in November 2023.
