Markham is gearing up for a thrilling weekend as it plays host to the NTT IndyCar Series for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event. This marks the first time the race will be held outside of Toronto, featuring a brand-new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.
To reach the track, attendees are encouraged to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407, with parking available west of the event grounds. Metrolinx is enhancing Stouffville Line services for convenient transportation to and from the track. Additionally, increased York Region Transit service and shuttle services from parking lots to the event venue in Markham are being provided.
Residents have faced track construction impacts for months, with various road closures in Markham Centre due to the event. The closure will affect parts of Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday morning, with some roads impacted until August 27 for track teardown.
The main event on Sunday features the IndyCar race, with the green flag set for 12:22 p.m. ET. Leading the points is Alex Palou, a seasoned driver and favorite for victory. Other contenders to watch include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay. Local talent like Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also showcase their skills in support series races.
Drivers are adjusting to the new Markham track layout, which offers a smoother surface compared to Toronto’s bumpy roads. The layout presents challenges with elevation changes and tight corners, promising an exciting race for fans. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are available on the event website, with Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions open to the public for free as part of Fan Friday.
