“Blockbuster Romance Writer Carley Fortune Announces New Novel Release Date”

Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set for release on May 18, 2027. This new novel revisits Barry’s Bay, Ont., the cherished backdrop of Fortune’s earlier works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her hometown.

In a recent newsletter, Fortune shared her excitement about owning a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-standing dream since her family home sale. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, shares this dream. Known as Ellie, she is the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s previous Barry’s Bay tales. Ellie, who grew up in Barry’s Bay, aspired to own property there. However, her plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is demolished for a grand mansion.

While details remain sparse, it’s expected that a hesitant romance will blossom in this lakeside environment. Fortune, a Toronto-based writer and journalist, has a rich editorial background with Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her earlier books include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel featured on the show. “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is working on a 10-episode series based on “This Summer Will Be Different.”
