The Ottawa Rapid have appointed Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their head coach for the upcoming season. This decision comes after the current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, disclosed her departure from the Northern Super League front-runners by the season’s end.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive career that includes participation in three Women’s World Cups and securing a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. Her coaching experience spans various countries such as Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
Under a two-season contract, Moscato will commence her role with the team this year, focusing on preparations for 2027, including player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato, citing her strong leadership, coaching expertise, technical acumen, and profound understanding of Canadian soccer.
Reflecting on her appointment, Moscato acknowledged the Rapid’s swift progress and emphasized her commitment to enhancing the team’s performance, development, and competitive edge. Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa’s upcoming game is scheduled in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m., broadcast live on CBC Gem.
