Davis, who has been in custody since 2023, faces a single charge of murder with a deadly weapon linked to a criminal gang’s involvement in Shakur’s 1996 demise. The trial, hosted in Las Vegas where the incident occurred, initiated with jury selection and is anticipated to span around a month.
The prosecution’s strategy does not revolve around proving that Davis executed the shooting but rather aims to persuade the jury that he held a commanding role within the group that targeted Shakur on the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996.
Shakur’s cousin, William Leslane, expressed that while the trial might bring some accountability, justice has been significantly delayed, stating, “Justice has been foregone years ago. The night my cousin was murdered — there should have been an intense investigation at that time.”
