Tesco plans to introduce over 70 new Express stores across the United Kingdom by acquiring former Amazon Fresh locations. Many Amazon Fresh sites will be rebranded and converted into Tesco Express outlets by March of the upcoming year. Some of the London-based Amazon Fresh sites set to reopen include Kensington High Street, Hounslow, Moorgate, Aldgate East, and Wembley, prior to the summer season. Last September, Amazon closed all its remaining 19 Fresh stores.
Nick Johnson, Tesco Group Property Director, expressed enthusiasm about expanding their store network to cater to more communities. He stated, “We are thrilled about the upcoming year and eager to reach more customers with high-quality products, great value, and exceptional customer service.”
In other news, Worcestershire County Council is offering up to £500 in energy bill support to struggling households residing within Worcestershire. Eligibility requires living in specific districts and meeting income criteria. The support is available for households with a gross income of £24,570 or less annually for single individuals without children, and £31,000 for other households, excluding benefits received.
Childcare providers have been advised against charging additional fees for free childcare hours. Children aged between nine months and four years can avail of 15 to 30 free childcare hours weekly during term-time. Updated guidelines from the Department of Education emphasize that free hours must not come with hidden or mandatory charges. Optional extras like meals, snacks, and trips can be charged if clearly priced and non-compulsory.
InPost, a parcel locker group, is being acquired by a consortium led by FedEx and Advent for £6.8 billion. InPost will continue operating under its brand, with plans to expand in various European markets, including the UK. The group aims to increase its locker points from 14,000 to 30,000 and enhance its pick-up and drop-off points to 5,500.
