Police officers and paramedics were injured in two separate crashes on the A130 in Essex. Three police officers and two paramedics were hurt when a van collided with them while they were responding to a previous road accident.
Essex Police reported that the paramedics and off-duty officers had stopped to assist a Nissan X-Trail involved in a crash on the A130 around 12:15 am on January 10. Following the incident, three suspects have been taken into custody.
Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin expressed concern for the injured emergency workers and their families, assuring that they are receiving support from the police force. He emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and urged the public to refrain from making assumptions, allowing the authorities to gather accurate information about both incidents.
The arrested individuals, including a 23-year-old from Canvey, a 29-year-old from Westcliff, and a 39-year-old from Canvey, face charges related to dangerous driving and substance impairment. One paramedic and one police officer sustained severe injuries and are currently hospitalized, while three other officers and paramedics were also injured in the van collision.
Essex Police urged motorists to avoid the A130 between Sadlers Farm roundabout and the A1245 due to the road closures resulting from the morning’s collisions. The police have closed off the affected area to conduct investigations, asking for the public’s cooperation and understanding during this time.
