Sainsbury’s Integrates Chop Chop for Enhanced Shopping

Sainsbury’s has discontinued its Chop Chop rapid delivery app and integrated the service into its main app for enhanced convenience. Chop Chop, launched in 2016 to provide groceries within 60 minutes for a premium fee, was operational in 50 Sainsbury’s stores.

The standalone Chop Chop app has been removed, redirecting users to the main Sainsbury’s app. Jim Banks, Sainsbury’s head of experience design, explained that this move was made to simplify the shopping experience. He announced the consolidation in a LinkedIn post, stating, “Chop Chop is dead. Long live Chop Chop!”

The decision to merge the apps was aimed at streamlining the shopping process for customers. Banks acknowledged the collaborative effort of various teams in achieving this transition, emphasizing the positive impact on simplifying the ecosystem and creating a more user-friendly shopping experience.

Chop Chop had been a competitor of Tesco’s Whoosh rapid delivery service, offering delivery in as little as 20 minutes. In other supermarket news, Co-op revealed plans to open 18 new or upgraded stores in the first quarter of 2026. The initial store will launch in Willowbrook Park, Didcot, with additional reopenings in Eastern Green, Coventry, and Ealing, London.

Kate McCrae, Co-op Operations Director, highlighted the company’s focus on establishing community-centric stores that cater to local needs. She emphasized quality products, value for customers, and ongoing promotions to enhance the shopping experience. The expansion efforts aim to strengthen Co-op’s presence across UK high streets and communities.

Additionally, Co-op announced its commitment to creating thousands of new apprenticeships by 2030, investing £70 million through its Levy Share service to facilitate 7,000 matched apprenticeships. This initiative aligns with Co-op’s strategy to support skill development and contribute to workforce growth.
