Hundreds of households in Surrey may receive complimentary supermarket vouchers valued at £300 to assist with living expenses. The initiative is part of the Household Support Fund established by Surrey County Council to aid vulnerable families.
Residents of Surrey County Council can access the support through the Everyday Essentials E-Voucher program if they are facing difficulties affording essential items and food supplies. These vouchers are valid at various supermarkets such as Aldi, Asda, Farmfoods, Iceland, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose.
Eligibility for the scheme is open to residents over 18 years old residing in Surrey, with household savings not exceeding £2,000 over a 90-day period and an annual household income below £27,007.50 before taxes and deductions.
Applicants must provide details of their income and household benefits received. Voucher applications open monthly, with the next round starting on February 3. Those missing the current month’s application window can reapply from March 2.
Other councils, like Nottingham City Council and Wakefield Council, are providing similar assistance to low-income households. Nottingham City Council is distributing £100 vouchers randomly to eligible households, while Wakefield Council is issuing food vouchers to households receiving council tax support. Pensioners receiving Council Tax Support have received £70 vouchers with additional vouchers for other households. Blackpool Council is offering energy assistance ranging from £200 to £300 to qualifying households.
To qualify for support, individuals must demonstrate financial hardship and difficulties in bill payments, submitting recent bank statements for all household members.
