The family of a young man who tragically passed away shortly before the Christmas holiday has expressed their deep sorrow following the discovery of his body in the water.
Luke Haffield lost his life after entering the River Avon in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. Despite prior search efforts, his remains were only found and retrieved on December 27. Describing the 20-year-old as someone who had a positive impact on many through his kindness, his family shared their profound grief over the unexpected loss.
In a statement conveyed through the police, they mentioned, “The unexpected loss of our beloved son and devoted brother in such a devastating accident has left our family in shock and immense sorrow.”
“He was a remarkable individual with a compassionate spirit, and this tragic incident will deeply affect the countless people who were fortunate to have known him,” they added.
Highlighting Luke’s achievements, the family noted, “We are immensely proud of the young man he had grown up to be. He had been pursuing an Engineering apprenticeship with Moog for two years and was actively involved in various sports like football, hockey, cricket in the past, and more recently, golf, darts, and padel.”
“He will forever remain our ‘Lukey’. Rest in peace, our dear boy. Your memory will always be cherished and honored.”
Gloucestershire Police, in their statement, expressed gratitude on behalf of Luke’s family to all the emergency services involved, including Gloucestershire Police, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, the National Police Air Service, Severn Area Rescue Association, and West Mercia Police dog handlers.
