“Qiddiya: Saudi Arabia’s Futuristic £30 Billion City”

A new city with an estimated cost of £30 billion is currently under development in Saudi Arabia, named Qiddiya. The city is designed to be three times larger than Paris and will boast unique attractions, including its own racetrack.

Qiddiya is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to expand the country’s economy by incorporating tourism and entertainment sectors. Situated in the desert, the city is strategically positioned 45km from Riyadh and 70km from King Khalid International Airport, covering an expansive area of approximately 360 square kilometers.

This futuristic city is envisioned as a hub for 500,000 residents, featuring 20 distinct neighborhoods and modern amenities. Referred to as “The City of the Future,” Qiddiya will showcase a Formula 1 circuit, a stadium planned for the 2034 World Cup, and artificial beaches.

Despite emissions from ongoing construction, sustainability is emphasized in Qiddiya City’s 2024 ESG Report, signaling a commitment to environmental stewardship, social impact, and economic resilience. Chief Strategy Officer Muhannad Aldawood emphasized the city’s dedication to leaving a positive legacy in these areas.

While still in progress, Qiddiya has already unveiled sections such as the venue for the Dakar Rally and the Six Flags theme park, which commenced operations on December 31st after four years of construction. Among its attractions is Falcon’s Flight, the world’s longest, tallest, and fastest rollercoaster, offering an exhilarating experience with speeds exceeding 150mph and reaching heights of 195m.

Six Flags CEO John Reilly expressed pride in the opening of Six Flags Qiddiya City, labeling it a milestone project that will redefine entertainment in the region. The establishment promises cutting-edge attractions, immersive experiences for all age groups, and the trademark thrills that have positioned Six Flags as a global entertainment leader.
