Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein allocated $5 million (£3.6 million) of his substantial wealth to Ghislaine Maxwell, as revealed in recently disclosed documents. This information was unveiled alongside a massive document release by the US Department of Justice, comprising over 3 million pages concerning investigations and coverage of Epstein, who passed away in 2019.
In a specific section of Epstein’s will labeled “Bequests,” he stipulated that in the event of Maxwell outliving him, she would inherit $5 million. Maxwell, a prominent socialite, was imprisoned in 2022 for her involvement in facilitating child sex trafficking for Epstein. Among nine beneficiaries listed to receive $5 million each upon Epstein’s demise, Maxwell and others were identified in the will.
The vast document release this afternoon included details about several recipients, with parts of the information redacted. Karyna Shuliak, reportedly Epstein’s last girlfriend, was also designated to receive $5 million. Additionally, Jean-Luc Brunel, an associate of Epstein who was found deceased in a Paris prison cell in 2022, and Epstein’s lawyer Darren Indyke were set to benefit from the same amount.
The document release encompassed 3 million pages, containing 180,000 images and 2,000 videos. It is important to note that being mentioned in the Epstein Files does not imply guilt.
The Trump administration officials have faced scrutiny for their management of the document release. Initially advocating for the release of the Epstein Files, Trump later opposed Republicans who supported their disclosure during his second term. This shift puzzled many of his supporters who had expected the documents to be made public.
Following pressure from a coalition of Republicans and Democrats, the government was compelled to release the documents by late December of the previous year. Despite this legal obligation, only a small fraction had been made public until the recent disclosure.
Epstein met his demise in a New York City prison cell in 2019.
