Erin Doherty has shared an intriguing connection with a well-known comedian, expressing her desire to reunite with him now that they are both in the spotlight, despite not having seen each other since their teenage years.
The 33-year-old actress, recognized for her portrayal of Princess Anne in Netflix’s acclaimed series “The Crown” and her role as child psychologist Briony Ariston in “Adolescence,” disclosed that Romesh Ranganathan, a 47-year-old comedian, served as her Head of Sixth Form at Hazelwick School in Three Bridges, where he also taught mathematics.
During a joint interview with her co-star Malachi Kirby on Sky News to promote the second season of Disney+ series “A Thousand Blows,” Erin reminisced about a meeting she had with “Mr Ranganathan” and her father when she got into trouble for neglecting her English Literature studies, leading to her expulsion from the class.
Erin shared the amusing fact that Romesh Ranganathan, known today as a comedian, was once her head of year at school, revealing the peculiar circumstances that brought them together in a disciplinary setting regarding her academic performance.
When asked if she had encountered Romesh since achieving fame, Erin expressed her eagerness to reconnect with him, highlighting the interesting coincidence of their paths crossing. Notably, Hazelwick School has hosted other notable personalities such as Gareth Southgate, Dan Walker, and Chico.
“A Thousand Blows,” set in late 19th-century London, follows the true story of Hezekiah Moscow, a Jamaican immigrant portrayed by Malachi Kirby, who delves into the brutal world of bare-knuckle boxing and becomes entangled in rivalries and complex relationships with other characters, including Mary Carr, played by Erin.
The drama, inspired by real events from the 1880s, captivated audiences in its debut last year and returned for a second season on Disney+. Viewers praised the series for its intense portrayal of bare-knuckle boxing in East London, with standout performances from the cast, including Stephen Graham and Erin.
