A food court in a UK city was swiftly cleared out following the discovery of a container containing a “suspicious dark powder substance.”
Emergency responders, including police and fire services, quickly descended on the Arndale food court on Wednesday evening, January 7. The unsettling finding prompted an immediate evacuation coordinated by the food court staff. However, authorities confirmed that there was no immediate threat present.
The Greater Manchester Police issued a statement confirming the situation, stating that they were at the Arndale Centre in response to a report of a suspicious substance found in the food court. The area was evacuated as a precautionary measure, with authorities working to ensure safety.
A spokesperson from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) reported that firefighters were called to the Arndale center following reports of a suspicious package. The area was cleared out as a safety measure by the police, with investigations revealing no actual risk associated with the package.
Fire crews have now handed over the incident to the Greater Manchester Police and have left the scene.
