A 33-year-old pregnant music instructor is facing charges for allegedly sexually abusing a child under 16. Naomi Tekea Craig, who is married, was arrested and accused of two counts of sexual penetration of a child aged over 13 but under 16, possession of child exploitation material, and persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16, with the incidents reportedly happening between 2024 and 2025.
Craig was working as a music teacher at Fredrick Irwin Anglican School when the alleged offenses took place. She was popular among both parents and students at the school. Authorities are currently investigating the incidents, which occurred in Mandurah, located south of Perth, Western Australia. Principal Tracey Gray confirmed Craig’s arrest in a letter to parents.
The school assured parents that the safety and well-being of all students, including their child, remain a top priority despite the incident. The West Australian Police emphasized their commitment to protecting children, stating that reports of offenses against children are distressing to the community. Specialist detectives and support services are actively involved in investigating the matter and caring for the victims. Craig is scheduled to appear in Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 27.
Fredrick Irwin Anglican School mandates a music program for all year 8 students and charges $8,320 (£4,153) per year for older students. According to reports, Craig was on maternity leave at the time of her arrest. A former schoolmate described Craig as a fantastic music teacher and a friendly individual, expressing shock over the allegations.
