Sky Sports Host Jo Wilson Shares Cancer Battle, Overcomes Fear

Sky Sports host Jo Wilson has shared her experience battling cancer, expressing her fear of death and how she mentally prepared for the worst upon receiving the heartbreaking diagnosis. Diagnosed with cervical cancer in June 2022 following a routine smear test, the 41-year-old underwent extensive treatment as the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. After six weeks of therapy, she received the all-clear in June 2023.

Having been with Sky Sports since 2011, Wilson underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and brachytherapy to combat the disease. While these treatments saved her life, they triggered early menopause, significantly impacting her career as a presenter.

Wilson’s cancer journey began just two years after giving birth to her daughter Mabel in 2020. In a new documentary titled “Football, Cancer, and Me” on Sky Sports News, she reflected on the overwhelming fear she experienced during the ordeal, choosing to keep the news to herself to avoid burdening others.

The documentary also features discussions with colleagues Emma Saunders and former manager Tony Mowbray, both of whom have faced their own battles with cancer. Mowbray revealed his bowel cancer diagnosis, while Saunders underwent surgery for a brain infection following a thyroid cancer diagnosis, leaving her with a noticeable scar that surprised her partner, football manager Will Still.

Amidst these personal stories of struggle and resilience, Sky has enhanced its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle, now offering HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+, and Hayu, along with 135 channels and comprehensive coverage of the Premier League and EFL. The network broadcasts over 1,400 live matches across various sports, including at least 215 from the Premier League, Formula 1, darts, and golf.
