“20 Hospitalized in Italy for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning”

Seventeen children and three adults were taken to the hospital after falling ill during a party at a restaurant. The kids, accompanied by their parents, were attending a religious celebration in Italy when they started experiencing symptoms like headaches, dizziness, and nausea, which were later diagnosed as carbon monoxide poisoning.

Multiple ambulances were required to transfer the affected individuals to various hospitals, with some being sent to the Istituto Giannina Gaslini hospital and others to San Martino, which has specialized facilities such as a hyperbaric chamber.

The incident was attributed to carbon monoxide fumes from a malfunctioning heating system. Hyperbaric chambers were utilized to enhance oxygen levels and counter the effects of poisoning. The Giannina Gaslini Hospital confirmed that all 20 patients were receiving care, with the most severely affected individuals returning from San Martino.

A statement from the hospital reported that all patients were stable, receiving continuous monitoring and care. Oxygen therapy was being administered as needed, and patients were distributed across different departments based on their conditions.

In a separate incident last month, a suspected carbon monoxide leak at a Marks & Spencer store in London prompted a major response. Elevated carbon monoxide levels were detected, leading to treatment of 30 individuals for chemical inhalation. Investigations into the cause of the leak were launched by the company.
