A vehicle caught fire at the car park of Heathrow Airport’s terminal 3 this morning, causing significant disruption for travelers heading to the airport. Travelers were observed waiting on the roadside with their luggage as traffic congestion built up near Heathrow Airport. Fortunately, the airport authorities swiftly extinguished the fire.
The incident led to disruptions on the M4 tunnel route to Terminals 2 & 3, resulting in temporary closures and delays for drivers. Heathrow Airport confirmed the closure of the Terminal 3 car park due to a “small vehicle fire,” causing congestion on the surrounding roads. They assured passengers that other parking facilities at the airport were functioning normally and apologized for any inconvenience caused.
The cause of the fire, suspected to involve an electric vehicle, remains under investigation. The vehicle directly affected by the fire was completely destroyed, while two adjacent vehicles suffered minor damages. This incident followed a previous traffic disruption near Heathrow Airport due to a major crash on the M25 at J14.
The London Fire Brigade dispatched four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters to the scene to contain the fire in the multi-storey car park. No injuries were reported, and the fire was successfully brought under control. As a precaution, the southbound M4 spur for Heathrow Airport from M4 J4 was closed temporarily.
Travelers were advised to consider alternate routes such as M4 J3 or M25 J14 due to the closure of the affected section of the M4.
