A man from the UK, known as a “traitor,” has been captured on video setting fire to his British passport while expressing disdain for his home country. Aiden Minnis, aged 38 and hailing from Chippenham in Wiltshire, proudly displayed his allegiance to Russian President Vladimir Putin by claiming to have received both a Russian passport and a bravery medal from him.
In the video, Minnis, sporting a beard and positioned in front of a Russian tricolor flag, denounced the UK’s new anti-terror laws that allow citizenship revocation for those deemed a threat. He defiantly renounced his British passport, declaring his rejection of it and his allegiance to Russia. The video concludes with Minnis firing a rifle into the air, emphasizing his commitment to his proclaimed cause.
Despite Minnis flaunting his Russian citizenship, it is clarified that the document he showcased is an internal ID for citizenship purposes only and does not grant him immunity from legal consequences in the UK or extradition. Previously, Minnis had made inflammatory remarks about targeting individuals in conflict zones.
Minnis’ quick acquisition of Russian citizenship was facilitated by Kremlin-aligned media outlets and politicians in Udmurtia, Russia. He has made controversial statements, including expressing hatred towards the UK and his readiness to fight for Putin. Minnis faces potential terrorism charges if he returns to the UK, a country he condemns as fascist.
Having earned a bravery medal from the Russian army for his actions in Ukraine, Minnis has also detailed his experiences on the Russian frontlines in interviews. He describes the dangerous and intense environment, highlighting the sacrifices made by his fellow soldiers.
Despite his fervent support for Russia and Putin, Minnis has been disowned by his family. In an interview, he discussed the challenges and risks of his role in the ongoing conflict.
