President Donald Trump has disclosed that progress on the initial phase of his 20-point peace plan to resolve the Israel-Gaza conflict is expected to be finished within the week. Trump emphasized the need for swift action from all involved parties.
In a recent announcement, Trump introduced the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict,” which consists of a detailed 20-point strategy calling for the release of all Israeli prisoners held captive.
Hamas has shown willingness to adhere to certain aspects of the peace proposal, such as freeing hostages and transitioning Gaza’s governance to Palestinian technocrats. However, Hamas has expressed the need for further dialogue on certain points. The group has affirmed its readiness to engage in immediate negotiations.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to update on the positive talks with Hamas and various nations worldwide to secure the release of hostages, bring an end to the Gaza conflict, and achieve long-awaited peace in the Middle East. Technical teams are set to convene in Egypt to finalize details, with the first phase expected to conclude shortly.
Despite these developments, Hamas has not addressed crucial demands related to disarmament and its role in Gaza’s administration, as reported by the Express US.
When asked about flexibility in the negotiations, Trump indicated that while the agreement has been largely accepted, some adjustments may still be made.
Hamas has agreed to transfer control of Gaza to an independent Palestinian leadership group, citing support from Palestinian and Arab communities.
The group has stressed that the resolution of other issues outlined in Trump’s plan concerning Gaza’s future and Palestinian rights hinges on a united national front and compliance with international laws.
Trump recently declared that Hamas is prepared for a lasting peace and called for an immediate halt to Israeli airstrikes on Gaza. However, Israeli airstrikes resulted in multiple casualties, including fatalities and injuries, over a 24-hour period.
Reports from Gaza’s Ministry of Health indicate a significant loss of life, with over 200 journalists and media workers killed since early October. Israel has restricted independent journalists from entering Gaza to verify these reports.
