Tragic Farm Incident Claims Father of Two

A man with two children has passed away due to severe injuries sustained in an incident involving a JCB at a farm. Ryan Roberts, aged 34, was working at a farm in Llanggwn near Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, on September 12 when the fatal accident occurred. He was taken to Witybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, where he was later pronounced dead.

An inquest into Ryan’s death was conducted at Pembrokeshire County Hall by Gareth Lewis, the senior coroner for Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. During the hearing, a brief report was presented by coroner’s officer Jerome Carlson, stating that Ryan was a 34-year-old plant operator from Haverfordwest.

The incident leading to Ryan’s death involved a JCB while he was at work. A preliminary medical report identified the cause of death as “haemorrhage from lacerations to the liver and spleen.”

The inquest was adjourned by Mr. Lewis to allow ongoing investigations by the police and Health and Safety Executive. He expressed condolences to Ryan’s family, some of whom were present at the inquest. The police confirmed the arrest of a 60-year-old man on suspicion of gross negligent manslaughter, who has been released pending further investigation.

In a statement, Ryan’s family mourned his untimely death, highlighting his positive qualities and the profound impact he had on their lives. They described him as a loving, hardworking, and beloved individual who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

According to the Health and Safety Executive, 124 individuals lost their lives in work-related incidents in the UK during the 2024/25 period.
