Tesco is set to distribute numerous complimentary Christmas trees for a single day only. The trees, often considered “wonky” due to imperfections like uneven branches or a slight tilt, would typically not be available for purchase. Nonetheless, Tesco plans to give them away on Saturday, December 6, at selected stores, urging recipients to contribute to the food charities Fareshare and Trussell.
The free trees will be offered at various locations including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, and more. Starting at 10 am, the trees will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. In comparison, the least expensive Christmas trees elsewhere are priced at £13.99 at Aldi and £14.99 at Home Bargains.
Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s UK CEO, emphasized the importance of embracing the imperfect moments during the festive season, stating that even though the trees may be slightly flawed, they can still bring charm to any home with a touch of care and strategic ornament placement, while also supporting charity partners. A recent survey conducted for Tesco revealed that a significant portion of Brits prioritize the second weekend of December for decorating their Christmas trees. The survey also highlighted that most individuals believe that Christmas does not have to be flawless to be special, with imperfect moments contributing to the holiday spirit.
In a separate initiative, Tesco announced that Clubcard members can earn double points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December, applicable to all third-party gift cards purchased in Tesco stores. With approximately 24 million Clubcard members, the rewards program offers points for various purchases, including groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile, Tesco credit card transactions, and the use of a Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card. Members can redeem points for vouchers worth £1.50 for every 150 points accumulated to spend at Tesco.
