A man in his 50s bravely drove himself to the hospital for urgent surgery after being attacked twice by a shark, sustaining leg injuries. The incident occurred at D’Estrees Bay on Kangaroo Island, believed to involve a bronze whaler shark, a species known to reach lengths of 3.3m and weigh up to 300kg.
Witnesses reported that the man was bitten while the shark was chasing seals in the bay. Bronze whalers are commonly found in coastal and offshore areas of South Australia. Fortunately, the man’s injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.
In a separate incident, a teenager named Annabelle Carlson shared her harrowing experience of being attacked by two sharks during a scuba diving trip in Belize. She described how she fought off the sharks after being bitten multiple times, resulting in severe injuries to her leg. Annabelle and her family managed to get her to a hospital for immediate treatment, including amputation of her leg.
Despite the traumatic event, Annabelle remains positive and even dressed up as a shark attack survivor for Halloween the following year. Her mother expressed gratitude for her daughter’s survival and resilience through the ordeal.
Shark attacks in Belize are rare, with only a few recorded incidents in the past century. Annabelle’s case is considered one of the most serious in recent times, highlighting the challenges faced by those involved in such encounters.
