Manny Pacquiao has confirmed discussions regarding a potential rematch with the renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather, with Netflix reportedly taking the lead in negotiations. This rematch would feature two of the most prominent stars in modern boxing.
Over a decade ago, the duo engaged in a highly anticipated fight that generated over £500 million from US pay-per-view sales. Mayweather emerged victorious with a comfortable decision, although the bout fell short of expectations, with Pacquiao attributing his performance to a shoulder injury.
Former eight-division world champion Pacquiao initially surprised the boxing community by announcing intentions for a rematch with Mayweather over a year ago. Mayweather later demanded a significant $4 million payment from Pacquiao for prematurely disclosing the talks.
Undeterred, Pacquiao, now 46, expressed readiness for a rematch, emphasizing Mayweather’s return as a crucial factor. He remains active in boxing and open to renewing the rivalry.
“I’ve been motivated since after the fight. After the operation, I was OK to get back in the ring and fight again. Right now, God is good and giving me strength and good health to continue my career as a boxer,” Pacquiao stated.
Pacquiao recently fought Mario Barrios to a draw in July, aiming to secure the WBC welterweight title after a four-year hiatus. Mayweather, on the other hand, has engaged in only two professional fights following their initial encounter, maintaining an undefeated 50-0 record and participating in exhibition matches against various opponents.
Despite Mayweather’s absence from his top opponents list, Pacquiao highlighted Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito. He criticized Mayweather’s fighting style, describing their previous encounter as unexciting and not meeting fans’ expectations.
