A woman has admitted to throwing a newborn baby out of a window in a plastic bag, as per reports. The incident occurred around 2:40 am on August 30, 2024, where the infant was discovered outside a residence with severe injuries and promptly taken to the hospital. Law enforcement swiftly apprehended a 25-year-old suspect at the time.
The woman, identified as Irine Jerotich, 26, was brought before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on a charge of reckless conduct endangering life. While it was not confirmed if she was the baby’s mother, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) disclosed her involvement in the case.
The event transpired in Dandenong North, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Jerotich acknowledged guilt for the offense during the court appearance without further details being disclosed. Allegations stated that she placed the newborn in a plastic bag before throwing the baby out of a bathroom window onto concrete.
According to AAP, the incident endangered the unnamed infant’s life, occurring between August 29 and 30 of the previous year. Initially charged with conduct endangering life and recklessly causing injury, the latter charge against Jerotich was dropped.
Currently out on bail, Jerotich has been instructed to remain within Victoria and at her residence until the case proceeds to a pre-sentence hearing in the County Court of Victoria scheduled for February, as reported by local media.
Housemates of the woman, unnamed at the time, expressed surprise at the situation, stating they were unaware of her pregnancy prior to the incident. They recounted calling for emergency assistance upon discovering the situation.
Victoria Police had previously confirmed that the woman charged had been hospitalized. The woman’s housemates conveyed their relief that the baby was safe and expressed their support for her and the infant’s well-being.
