“Murderer who glorified killing teen set for prison transfer”

A murderer who callously bragged in a song about killing a young teenager is scheduled to be transferred to a less secure prison facility. Jake Fahri, who was 19 at the time, received a life sentence in 2009, with a minimum term of 14 years, for fatally injuring schoolboy Jimmy Mizen by throwing an oven dish at him in a south London bakery. Fahri was seen smiling as he exited the shop.

After being released on parole in June 2023, Fahri was returned to custody in January 2025 when it was discovered that he had released drill music containing lyrics glorifying the murder. It was alleged that Fahri, under the alias Ten, had referenced Jimmy’s death in one of his tracks available on Spotify and YouTube. Despite initially denying that the music was autobiographical, Fahri later admitted to being the rapper Ten.

A Parole Board report revealed that Fahri failed to disclose his music activities to his probation officer, violated his exclusion zone, and stayed at an unapproved address. Despite claiming ignorance of his restrictions, evidence showed that Fahri’s probation officer had gone over the conditions with him. At a hearing, Fahri and his supporters advocated for his release, but the Justice Secretary, David Lammy, opposed it.

The Parole Board’s decision emphasized concerns about Fahri’s compliance with release conditions, citing the need for him to reflect on his behavior and attitude. It recommended moving Fahri to an open prison to facilitate this introspection. Jimmy’s mother expressed her expectation of Fahri’s release but welcomed the decision to keep him in the prison system.

Open prisons, characterized by minimal security, allow eligible inmates to spend most of their day outside for work or education. The final decision on Fahri’s transfer will rest with Justice Secretary David Lammy. The Mirror has reached out to the Parole Board and the Ministry of Justice for comments.
