Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been supporting former driver Lewis Hamilton during a challenging season at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has faced difficulties with the team, including a struggling car and questionable race strategies.
Hamilton’s challenges were highlighted at the recent Qatar Grand Prix where he had a tough qualifying session and finished outside the points in 12th place. Currently placed sixth in the drivers’ standings, he risks slipping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing frustration with his debut season at Ferrari, Hamilton described 2025 as the “worst season ever,” despite giving his all on and off the track. The struggles have been noticeable throughout the season, prompting his former team, Mercedes, to offer personal support.
Mercedes’ chief communications officer, Bradley Lord, disclosed that they have been in discussions to assist Hamilton during this tough period, with Wolff even accompanying him to race locations. Lord empathized with Hamilton’s situation, acknowledging the challenges he is facing and expressing belief in Hamilton’s ability to bounce back stronger.
Looking ahead to the final race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton aims to maintain his sixth position in the drivers’ standings. As he prepares for the race, he is trailed closely by Kimi Antonelli in the points tally.
The upcoming race marks the end of Hamilton’s time driving the current Ferrari model, which has presented numerous challenges. In a symbolic move, Arthur Leclerc will replace Hamilton in the first free practice session.
Despite the setbacks, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, is urging the team to strive for success and learn from their experiences. With an eye on the 2026 campaign, Ferrari is keen to end the season positively.
