A man has been apprehended by police for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old daughter because she wanted to marry someone from a different caste, according to authorities.
The incident came to light after a neighbor reported the teenager missing since September 23, noting gunshots and screams emanating from the man’s residence on that day. The girl’s body was discovered two days after her disappearance, submerged in a nearby river.
Upon investigation, law enforcement officials found the man’s responses to be evasive, leading to his eventual admission of killing his daughter during a dispute over her desire to marry outside their caste. It is alleged that the man shot the girl in the presence of her younger sister, then concealed the body in a tarpaulin bag, tied it with weights, and disposed of it in a river close to his ancestral village.
Following the recovery of the body, a postmortem examination was conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Initial inquiries suggest that the girl’s insistence on marrying a boy from a different caste led to the fatal confrontation with her father.
In a separate incident, a father in Pakistan was charged with the murder of his 15-year-old daughter for refusing to cease posting TikTok videos. Anwar ul-Haq, who recently relocated his family from the US to Pakistan, confessed to shooting his daughter, Hira, in Quetta. Despite initially blaming unidentified assailants, he later acknowledged the crime, citing objections to his daughter’s online activities as the motive.
Ul-Haq, a US citizen, reportedly prohibited his daughter from creating TikTok videos he deemed inappropriate, citing concerns over her attire, lifestyle, and social interactions. Authorities are exploring the possibility of an honor killing in their investigation of the tragic incident.
