A man faced charges in court for the death of a university student who lost her life in a van accident that struck pedestrians in downtown London. Aalia Mahomed, aged 20, was remembered by her family as a vibrant, compassionate, and lovely individual. The tragic incident occurred on the Strand on March 18 last year.
The young student, pursuing a physics and philosophy degree in her second year at Kings College London, tragically lost her life. Christopher Jackson, the accused, made an appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. He faced charges of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection to the incident.
During the court appearance, Jackson, donned in a black shirt and trousers, confirmed his identity but did not enter a plea. The emergency response was swift following the collision at The Strand near Kings College London. Reports revealed that the van struck a metal gate, dislodging it, and then hit the bench where Ms. Mahomed was seated.
Despite the swift efforts of paramedics, Aalia was pronounced dead at the scene. Two individuals, a 27-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old man, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. Aalia’s family expressed their profound grief, describing her as a radiant, kind-hearted soul who brought happiness to all those around her.
Jackson, aged 27 and residing on Walton Road in Southampton, was granted conditional bail pending his next appearance at the Old Bailey on February 2.
