“Lidl’s New Self-Scanning App Enhances Checkout Experience”

Lidl has introduced a new self-scanning feature in its loyalty app, aiming to enhance the checkout experience for customers. With this update, shoppers can conveniently scan items using their smartphones before finalizing their purchases at the register. The feature underwent initial testing in four stores earlier this year within a “friends and family” trial and is expected to roll out more widely next year.

In a strategic move, Lidl has secured a trademark for “Lidl & Go” in Europe and the UK, signaling its focus on digital payment solutions and scan-and-shop technologies within its stores. Shyam Unarket, Customer Relations Director at Lidl GB, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging technology to streamline the customer journey and provide flexibility in shopping experiences.

The recent comparison by Which? revealed that Lidl has outperformed Aldi as the most cost-effective supermarket for the second time in recent months. A shopping basket comprising 70 items at Lidl averaged £120.46 in October, slightly cheaper at £120.38 for members of the Lidl Plus loyalty program. In contrast, the same basket of goods at Aldi averaged £121.

Tesco customers would have spent £134.89 in the same period, or £133.38 with a Clubcard, while Sainsbury’s shoppers faced a bill of £139.68, or £136.79 with a Nectar card. Notably, Aldi and Lidl were not included in the comparison of 187 items due to their smaller product range compared to other supermarkets.

In conclusion, Lidl’s innovative self-scanning feature and competitive pricing further solidify its position as a leader in the retail landscape, offering customers convenience and value in their shopping experiences.
