“Gruesome Warning: 5 Human Heads Displayed on Ecuador Beach”

Tourists enjoying a scenic beach were shocked to discover a gruesome scene as five human heads were spotted hanging in what authorities believe to be a warning message from a criminal organization.

The heads were found displayed on the well-liked beach in Puerto Lopez, Ecuador, with ropes attached to wooden poles. These macabre displays are seen as a symbol of the escalating drug-related violence in the region, as depicted in images shared by local media.

Near the grisly sight, a written warning was left for potential rivals considering extortion of fishermen at the nearby port of Puerto Lopez. This port area is frequented by transnational cartels involved in illegal activities with local fishermen, according to law enforcement.

A longstanding territorial dispute over drug-trafficking routes has led to a series of violent incidents in the region. To address the escalating violence, authorities have implemented a state of emergency in nine out of Ecuador’s 24 provinces, including Manabi where Puerto Lopez is situated.

Despite increased police presence, the region continues to grapple with a surge in violent crimes, with official reports citing 9,000 murders in Ecuador in 2025. Incidents like the recent pool hall shootings in Santo Domingo, resulting in multiple fatalities, underscore the ongoing gang-related violence in the country.

The situation further deteriorated with the killing of Mario Pineida, a former Ecuadorian footballer, in Guayaquil during an armed attack. Ecuador has unfortunately become a hub for drug trafficking, particularly along its borders with Colombia and Peru.

The UK’s foreign office has issued travel advisories, cautioning against non-essential travel to Manabi and other coastal regions, as well as areas near the Ecuador-Colombia border. The state of emergency in Ecuador was extended, citing internal disturbances and armed violence, prompting warnings for tourists to remain vigilant and exercise caution in these volatile regions.

Travelers are advised to be wary of “express kidnapping” in certain areas and to stay alert near the Ecuador-Colombia border due to rapidly changing security situations. Precautionary measures such as traveling with official guides, staying informed, and having emergency plans in place are strongly recommended to ensure safety.
