A bystander bravely rescued a man who had fallen into a frozen lake while trying to save his dog, as shown in video footage. The incident occurred at Connaught Water in Epping Forest, Essex, where the dog had ventured onto the ice during the cold spell across the UK. Despite the owner’s efforts to rescue the pet, both ended up in the icy water.
In a daring move, another passerby crawled across the frozen lake to reach the dog and its owner. However, he too fell into the freezing water. Video footage captured their struggle to get out as the thin ice broke beneath them. Fortunately, they managed to reach safety and were attended to by paramedics.
Following the incident, the dog was reunited with its owner, and one of the men was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital for further evaluation. Essex Fire and Rescue Service advised against entering frozen water due to the swift onset of cold water shock.
Watch Manager Gary Dyer emphasized the importance of not entering cold water in emergencies, urging people to call emergency services instead. As the UK experiences freezing temperatures and snowfall, caution is advised. Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are in effect, with forecasts predicting continued wintry weather in the coming days.
School closures and transportation disruptions have been reported across Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland due to icy conditions. The UK Health Security Agency has issued amber cold health alerts for England to caution against health risks posed by adverse temperatures, effective until Sunday.
