“EE Users Warned of Resurgent Scam Texts”

EE mobile users are being cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Cybersecurity experts have observed a rise in urgent messages targeting EE customers, claiming that they risk losing substantial EE reward points unless they take immediate action.

According to Bitdefender, scammers are pretending to be affiliated with EE to entice individuals into clicking on deceptive links that direct them to fraudulent websites. These websites are crafted to extract login credentials, enabling the scammers to profit illicitly.

The success of this scam hinges on creating a sense of urgency, compelling users to act hastily without thorough consideration.

Bitdefender highlighted that scammers manipulate individuals by setting tight deadlines, instilling a fear of losing something valuable. The links in these messages do not lead to EE’s official site but instead redirect to fake platforms.

Genuine EE notifications are strictly delivered through official EE accounts and not via unsolicited texts. Any message pressuring recipients with a countdown or urgent demands should raise suspicion. Users are advised to forward suspicious texts to 7726 and promptly delete them.

This type of scam has previously targeted EE customers, with instances reported earlier this year where users received convincing fake messages regarding reward points. Individuals have shared experiences of unwittingly engaging with these scams, underscoring the importance of vigilance.

EE has reiterated that it does not run a points program and has cautioned users against responding to scam messages. The company has shared examples of fraudulent messages to raise awareness among customers.

To stay safe, EE users are advised to refrain from clicking on unknown links in text messages, avoid replying to suspicious messages, refrain from calling numbers provided in such messages, and never disclose personal or financial information.

In conclusion, EE users are urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution to avoid falling victim to such scams.
