“British State to be Held Accountable for Working People’s Rights”

In recent decades, many working individuals have faced significant challenges due to failures within the state. Today marks the beginning of efforts to hold the British state accountable to and in support of working people. This includes instances such as the Hillsborough families being wrongly blamed for their loved ones’ deaths.

Other examples include individuals infected by supposedly safe blood, sub-postmasters standing by their correctness despite system errors, Grenfell Tower residents disregarded about their home’s safety, and the mistreatment of the Windrush generation.

Despite the hardships, these individuals persisted by writing letters, attending hearings, and advocating for justice that was rightfully theirs. The core demands have been simple: truth, accountability, and respect for grieving families. The introduction of the Hillsborough Law in Parliament today signifies a step towards fulfilling these promises.

It is crucial to maintain the strength of the Bill to honor the dedication of families who have fought for decades. Notably, the proposed expansion of legal aid will alleviate the financial burden on families facing legal battles against the state, promoting fair access to justice and support for vulnerable victims.

The Hillsborough Law acknowledges the resilience and selflessness of families and victims who have turned personal tragedies into opportunities for service. This law stands as their enduring legacy, aiming to prevent future injustices and ensure transparency in governance.

Efforts must be made to preserve the integrity of the Bill and expedite its implementation to prevent victims from enduring prolonged struggles for justice. Upholding truth and justice should be the guiding principles in addressing past wrongs and preventing their recurrence.
