Ben Stokes injured while coaching; maintains sense of humor

Ben Stokes recently suffered a severe injury, breaking a cardinal rule for cricket coaches. The England cricket player shared a photo on Instagram displaying a black eye, bruises, scratches, and a bandaged nose. Despite the injuries, Stokes maintained his sense of humor by joking about the condition of the cricket ball.

The incident occurred while Stokes was coaching young players in Durham’s indoor facility, with a ball hitting him unexpectedly. He was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. Stokes later contacted the player responsible, Robbie Bowman, to reassure him. Durham coach Ryan Campbell highlighted the importance of never turning one’s back on a batter while coaching.

Stokes, who is recovering from a previous groin injury, is looking to return to action for Durham and potentially play in England’s upcoming Test match against Australia. The seasoned cricketer, contracted with England until 2027, has shown interest in coaching post-retirement. Stokes’ dedication to the sport is evident from his 120 Test appearances for England.
