Apple has introduced a new version of its popular AirTag, designed to make tracking lost items even easier. The latest AirTag includes an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, providing a more extended range for Precision Finding. This enhancement allows users to locate misplaced items from a greater distance, with Precision Finding now compatible with select Apple Watch models.
Additionally, the new AirTag features a redesigned internal speaker that emits sounds 50% louder than the previous model. This improvement aims to assist in locating the AirTag even in hard-to-reach places, such as under furniture or amidst clutter.
Apple has emphasized privacy in the new AirTag, ensuring that location history is not stored on the device. The AirTag leverages Apple’s Find My network, utilizing nearby Apple devices to anonymously relay location updates back to the owner. All communications with the Find My network are safeguarded by end-to-end encryption, guaranteeing that only the owner can access the location information.
Moreover, the AirTag integrates seamlessly with the Share Item Location feature on iOS, enabling users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, including airlines. This collaboration with over 50 airlines facilitates the recovery of lost belongings, such as delayed luggage.
The new AirTag is now available for purchase on Apple’s website and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Prices for the AirTag start at £29 for a single tag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original version, which started at £35.
