WhatsApp is set to introduce a significant update this week, reintroducing a feature known as About but with a new twist. The feature, which was present in the early stages of the app, is making a comeback to allow users to easily share updates about their lives.
According to WhatsApp, the revamped About feature aims to provide users with a convenient way to communicate what’s currently happening in their lives. The Meta-owned company stated, “Today we’re reintroducing and enhancing About, making it more visible, timely, and user-friendly.”
So, what can users expect from the new About feature and when will it be available on their devices? The feature is designed for moments when users want to share updates about their lives. By using a brief phrase and an emoji, users can inform others why they are unavailable for a chat or what they want to discuss.
The About status will be prominently displayed at the top of the chat window, ensuring easy visibility for others. WhatsApp explained, “About will now be more prominently displayed at the top of individual chats and on user profiles.”
Users will also have the option to respond directly to someone’s About by tapping on it within a chat. The About status will automatically expire after one day, but users can customize the duration by adjusting the settings. Users can access the settings and select ‘Set About’ to choose a specific time limit.
For those concerned about privacy, WhatsApp allows users to control who can view their About status. In the privacy settings, users can restrict visibility to only their contacts or make it accessible to a wider audience.
WhatsApp has announced that the updated About feature will be gradually rolled out to all mobile users starting this week.
